Twitter just announced that it was going to eliminate the procedure that I and other Twitterers use to get 100-200 or more tightly targeted followers every day! Yesterday, March 4, 2009 I actually got 506 new followers!

I have been on Twitter since August of last year, 2008. By January of this year, I had about 200 followers. Then I learned, from one of the Top Twitter Gurus, the secret of Turbo Charging my Twitter Follower building!
From the end of January until now, I have added almost 13,000 followers, so I guess this method works! So well that Twitter will eliminate it because it gives me and others an unfair advantage.

a. You can have up to 15 alphanumeric characters in your username as long as there are no spaces in your name.
b. Avoid using a silly username like jcd1324. Twitter is a social network first and foremost and as you are dealing with real people, who wants to follow or hear from someone with a very obvious fake name.
c. As you type in the characters for your desired username, Twitter checks automatically if the username is available. If it is, then the name is shown in green as in the screenshot below.
Tip 2: Use a REAL email address that you check often.
Don't worry you will not receive spam from Twitter. In fact, having been a member since May 2007, I have yet to receive any email direct from Twitter. The reason you want a real email address there is:
a. In case you lose or forget your account password you can have it sent to you.
b. Direct messages from your friends are emailed to you immediately. (You can turn off this feature in your settings later if you want to.

What is Twitter Hawk?
Twitter Hawk is like an autoresponder on steroids!
You give it your keyword or keyword phrase. Then type in your desired tweet in response. Talk about targeted marketing!
The Hawk is activated according to a schedule, either once every 6, 12 or 24 hours or even every month.
When the Hawk is awakened, it scans the Twitterverse until it sees one of your keyword targets, then it fires off one of the pre recorded Tweets (you can have up to 5 per keyword).
Twitter Hawk allows you to respond to tweets, even while you sleep!

Twitter Traffic-How I Got 10,000 Hits from Twitter in 1 Month!
I had no way of knowing what the results would be when I decided to try to use Twitter to drive traffic to my articles, blogs websites etc.
Here is what I did.
Built up my number of Twitter Followers. This is vital as the more followers you have, the more traffic you can generate. When I started, I had just over 1,000 followers, at the end of the month, I had 4,800! Then I discovered this Twitter Tutorial Video that has enabled me to go from 4800 to nearly 6500 in 7 days! http://tw1.us/AX
If you are a newbie, I would recommend this new Twitter Video course by Internet Marketer Ann Sieg: http://tw1.us/W9 It is free.
Next I hooked up with http://Twtr.us This is a fantastic utility that is worth its weight in gold, but is free. It shortens, cloaks and tracks your links by date, time of day, IP address, etc. It also saves the actual Tweets you used so that you can compare the responses you get with the wording you used.
I then made Twtr links for the items that I gave away or promoted. It makes the shortest URL's available. Once I put in a URL that was over a line and a half long, over 120 characters. It was reduced to a URL 16 characters long! I was careful not to just pound out affiliate links. If you do that you will find people un-following you.
I evaluated the responses to my various Tweets, eliminating those that did not get a good response and repeating those that did. It was really exciting being able to see in real time how many hits I got to my links. Sometimes I would have 5-6 hits even before I could get back to the Twtr site right after I posted the Tweet!
This is also a great way to evaluate headlines or text for bullet points. Launch them as a Tweet and track the response to them.
No real magic formula here just good old fashioned work! Good luck! Any questions email me.
